ELDERLY CARE COMPANION / CAREGIVER

We offer companions with nursing training or relevant experience the opportunity to be a companion for an elderly people in the UK.

LIVING WITH THE ELDERLY MEANS

  1. To help with some general household duties
  2. To assist the older person in their daily life as is necessary; dressing, bathing, going for walks and other outings
  3. To prepare suitable meals and to ensure that the older person eats correctly

THE WORK:

This may vary as it depends on the life style of elderly person with whom you are living. It is important to be available to ensure that the elderly person is safe at all times and to report to the other family members of any health concerns should these arise.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

Light housework, meal preparation, personal ironing for the elderly person, cooking, being generally friendly and helpful (letter writing, shopping together etc, etc). Looking after pets if necessary.

WORKING HOURS:

This is generally 5 full days weekly with 2 free days each week. Evenings out may be arranged with the elderly person’s family.

FREE TIME:

This will be arranged before the placement is finalised. In some situations it may be possible to have some extra time to attend a language course.

SALARY:

Applicants working 5 full days £250.00 net weekly
Applicants taking extra time free to study £170.00 net weekly

ACCIDENTS & HEALTH INSURANCE:

The Quickhelp Agency is not responsible for accidents that happen while working with the Elderly. Accidents outside the home are subject to the normal laws of negligence between the applicant and whoever was involved. The laws relating to the liability of the householder govern accidents in the home. It is advisable for all applicants travelling to a foreign country to have personal insurance arranged before leaving home.

TAX , NATIONAL INSURANCE AND REGISTRATION FOR WORK:

It will be necessary to register for tax and National Insurance once the applicant is in the UK. Quickhelp Agency will assist all families and applicants with this process. The tax and National Insurance is paid by the employer and is NOT deducted from the applicant’s net salary.

Applicants from the EU accession states who are being employed on this programme “Living with the Elderly” will need to register. They must do so within one month of commencing work regardless of the hours they are working or the wage they receive.

There will be a fee payable to the government when you register on the workers registration scheme.

BOARD & LODGING:

Accommodation and full board is provided. All applicants are expected to eat meals with the elderly person when the elderly person is alone.

HOLIDAYS:

4 weeks paid holiday plus 4 Public/Bank Holidays per annum (or pro rata for time stayed) after initial 3 month period.

TERMINATION OF WORKING ARRANGEMENT:

Both sides have the right to terminate the arrangement after a suitable period of notice. The arrangement may be terminated without notice only if there are grave reasons. In most cases, however, both sides will agree to wait until the applicant has found another placement or respectively until the family can engage a replacement for their elderly relative.

That they are NOT qualified nurses registered in the UK and therefore NOT allowed to undertake any duties for which a formal UK nursing qualification is needed.
